The Big Idea

Alfred Nobel "This is a wonderful sand desert where the wind always blows, and often howls, filling the ears with sand which also drifts about the room like a fine drizzle. There, like a huge village, lies the factory. A few yards away the ocean begins, a sea whose mighty waves are always raging and foaming. Now you will have some idea of the place where I am living ... without work it would be intolerable." ... Thus wrote Alfred Nobel of Ardeer, where he had begun to build his explosives factory in 1871.
The company established in 1871 as the British Dynamite Company, became Nobel's Explosives and finally Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI).  ICI have donated the ground for ... The Big Idea.
So, in the spring of 2000, on the spectacular Ardeer peninsula, an exciting NEW permanent Millennium Exhibition will open to the public, This exhibition, The Big Idea, will celebrate a Hundred Years of Nobel Laureates - a Thousand Years of Invention - but, most importantly, the "Big Ideas" of the Visitor!
